ME > WA > CA > CO > ME

November 16, 2014
After two weeks of rest in Maine (boating with Kyle, kayaking with Cory, visiting family, sleeping in, and catching up on life’s myriad administrative tasks), I spent August road tripping from Seattle to Boulder. Sarah and I spent two weeks: hiking in the Olympics, rafting the Kalamath River in northern California, visiting Bishop, and playing in Tuolumne Meadows. The last day we got up at 2 AM to drive her to the Reno airport, and named the trip Balls Early after that drive.

Immediately after that I spent some time in Tahoe and did a bike trip with Jenny and Katie from Davis to Berkeley (~110-miles) in 100 degree heat. We ate lots of ice cream and drank lots of water, and my butt became sore from sitting on Jenny’s dad’s upright cruiser with a fatty gel seat. Then I drove to Salt Lake to pick Sarah up and we went onto to Boulder. Then I went backpacking for 4-5 days in Colorado’s Waimuche Wilderness with Meghan. It was her first time hiking off trail. We were entertained and disgusted by the Colorado 14er hikers.

I went back to Maine for a month (September) of relaxation and reading with a few excursions: kayak touring with Maggie, sailing with dad and Elsie, a long bike ride down the coast, and I got all my material possessions ready to move.

Sarah, with the raft and enough food for 7 days, and Mt. Olympus across the valley.

We bushwacked down the through the headwaters of the Hoh River back to the High Hoh bridge.

Some Coloradan needs to learn how to pack a backpack. You can see he's wearing studio style headphones.
